If you are using Stratosphere in conjuction with Microsoft Excel, there is a way to preassign a color to a line item in your estimating spreadsheet.  Here are the steps:

1. Launch your master spreadsheet in Excel.

2. Go to the Stratosphere tab in Excel and select Settings.  Under the Settings option, make sure you have the Column set to the column where you have your descriptions for the items you will be measuring (e.g. Column A).

3. In Excel right click on the description (example cell A10) and select from the right-click menu Stratosphere/Select Color.  This will bring up a palette of colors.  Select the color you want to assign to the description.  Continue this process until you have pre-assigned colors to all of the descriptions in your spreadsheet and then save the file.

4. Open your master spreadsheet and do a "Save-As" and type in the proect name for the new project.  When you log into Stratosphere and start bringing over line items from your spreadsheet into the Layer list, you will see as you move from layer to layer, the colors will automatically change colors.

The preset color feature works for Lines, Areas, Rectangles and Counts.
